RANS Alterra

RANS has a couple new crankforwards bikes out – the Alterra and Alterra RoadMy RANS Street crankforward was one super fun bike, easy to ride, uber stable, comfy and easy to adjust for a large range of rider sizes without tools.  I sold it to buy another RANS crankforward, but that deal fell through after the Street was sold…something I regret…=-(

These new models offer a more aggressive upright geometry while keeping the comfort and ease of handling that riders have come to expect from RANS bikes.  I’ll definitely post more if I get the chance to throw a leg over one of these bikes.

My trusty RANS Street crankforward...

If you haven’t seen it my old Crankforward Blog has some interesting info on these bikes and I’ve got nice photos on Flickr.

If the Surly Big Dummy intrigues you, but you want/need something different in the way of ergonomics RANS has continued to develop its crank forward cargo bike design.  RANS’ crank forward bikes move your weight rearward and lower down onto a wide comfy seat.  The lower position means you can get your feet flat on the ground at stops while remaining seated.  For many people this translates into a natural and comfy ergonomic position.

RANS has posted more info about the Hammer Truck on their website here.

Nanda Holz from Spincyclz sent me some photos of this RANS Fusion crankforward bike he has been working on that he affectionately named Chloe.

With comfortable ergonomics, Big Apples and disc brakes she is just a set of fenders and rear rack away from being a sweet commuter/city bike.

chloe-3I’ve enjoyed riding a more upright RANS Street crankforward and I’m keen on trying out one of the more laidback RANS bikes like Chloe.
