Barrack the Vote!

6 11 2012

Just do it!

I’m not American and I don’t get a vote in the election today, but I do care who gets the launch codes to the most dangerous nuclear arsenal on the planet. I think Obama did a good job this last 4yrs given the system he had to work within and the condition the US was left in after 8 years of being Bush-wacked. Barrack’s not perfect. He could do better. No doubt, but over the last 4yrs the US hasn’t invaded any sovereign countries. That alone is something to celebrate – especially if you aren’t American. The US economy is headed in the right direction which is good for Canada. The idea that everyone deserves access to basic health care regardless of income is slowly seeping into the American consciousness. A black President that supports LGBT rights and has the courage to get behind a rationale approach to immigration reform is a game changer in a country that fought a civil war over slavery.

Although I am one of those damn socialist Canadians I was an army officer for a decade so hearing what Colin Powell had to say about Obama resonated with me. He’s a republican who’s voting for Obama because he’s the better candidate to lead the US.

Just so I don’t come off as totally pro-Obama I think Josh Whedon makes some excellent points about why you might want to support Mitt Rommney.

Barrack rides a bike!

Mitt thinks bikes are for homeless people and poor people with DUIs who can’t afford a limousine! ;)

This is so far off base and so uncharacteristic for such a great cycling blog to make such ridiculous statements. Mitt is the best chance Americans have for a free non-socialistic nation. Last time I checked, thats why we left England. We sought freedom, not governmental control, we sought a chance to win and fail, just like any good expedition, not cradle to the grave claimed protection from our government. We are a nation based on self initiative not entitlements and we hope to keep it that way. Mitt shares this vision.

@Brent – it’s only ridiculous if you think Mitt would be a good choice for president… ;)

@Brent – Sheesh…I’m thinking the zombies have already arrived. You can wave the flag until you’re blue in the face but it doesn’t change the fact that your romanticized vision of the founding of this country is sadly out of touch with reality. A country founded on the freedom of white male capitalists isn’t that free at all. While we’ve come a long way over 200 years, we have a long way to go. For 200 years, white male capitalists have been collecting all the aces from the deck and declare they want a game that is “free and fair” and that it is the fault of the others when they don’t come up with a winning hand. I’m sorry but as someone holding a bunch of aces myself from birth while I see many around me holding none, I call bullshit.

Barrack won…we won’t have to argue about this for another 4yrs. :)

Brent (not the same Brent as before)

I was a little concerned when I saw my name in the comments, I know I have voices in my head but I didn’t remember typing. Then it occured to me that there may be more than one Brent in this world. Imagine that. Now that the election is over I have always thought it was fun to look at politicians on bikes. I said I would vote based on cool factor. Here is the laydow:

Bill Clinton: I don’t know if he rode a bike, the only pictures were of him holding Lance Armstrong’s Tour winning ride.

Ron Paul: Wow, he looks old and should be on a recumbant.

Mitt: I couldn’t find anything since he was 20 and on his Mission.

President Obama: I tried to find a cooler picture than the one you posted. Can’t be done.

I know you probably don’t want to hear it but, the coolest politician on a bike:

G-Dub. He looks good on that mountain bike!

I think we need to get President Obama some Rapha vs the jeans he is wearing.

GW was a nice guy in the sense he’d be fun to hang out with and go for a ride and then a beer. I just wouldn’t have given him nuclear launch codes if the choice had been up to me… ;)

I think it’s time for a lady president.

In 15 years, we’ll all find out that Mitt and BO were doping through all of this. We’ll all be crushed. And we’ll all argue about it. :)

Agreed about the lady president. Unfortunately we have to wait for more of these old white men to die off first.

Maybe Michelle Obama could take a run at it? :)

It’s quite funny for a French to observe that “socialist” is almost an injurious word in lots of american mouths.

Well, though we will not likely agree on politics, I think we all agree this is a great cycling blog…thanks to all that contribute.

Two days before the election I couldn’t take all the coverage & fingernail chewing & went into total sensory depravation. When the count finally came I let out a bellow of happiness/relief. Bravo America, good choice.
