Hard not to like that!

I don’t post much recumbent porn these days, but this image was worth its own post.  You can buy these bags here. Go Ortlieb..=-)~

I like the relatively fat Kojaks and the fender too.

Ahhh, biking orgasm. I’ll have to get one of these recumbents for the weekend rides. I find that on a normal bike my back starts to protest after a few hours. One thing I don’t get is why they make almost all cycling bags and paniers black. Yes, black hides dirt, but a dark bike is much harder to spot on the road.
My paniers are yellow.

All my panniers and bags are black. I often wear black clothing when riding – especially on tour. I do have visibility clothing I wear occasionally when I feel it’s needed, but for the most part during the day I’m not worried about being seen. I ride intelligently and I look out for cars in front and behind me. I’ve never felt like being seen was an issue.

I’m not suggesting I’m a role model….it’s just what I do.

Vik, nice bike in a nice nature setting. You don’t have an issue with your back getting sore? If you do how do you manage it? As for me, I stop after an hour of biking and lie down for 10 to 20 minutes. That seems to work OK, but it’s too weather/temperature dependant :-(
From my experience as a driver I know I can easily spot a biker in a yellow biking jacket . Bikers in dark clothes reveal themselves when I get much closer; and could be easy to overlook, depending what’s behind them (what background). Happy New Year.

I stop for lunch and when it gets dark. My daily max is 140kms so far on tour. I wasn’t sore or uncomfortable – it was getting dark and I was hungry.

Here’s the thing do I really care if you can see me from 1km away or 0.5kms? You can’t hit me until you are on top of me so I’m not trying to be the most visible thing you see all day. I’m just interested in being visible enough to be safe. I don’t subscribe to the philosophy that if X is good than 3X is 3 times better.

If I had close calls during the day I would question my choices, but after decades of cycling that hasn’t been the case and cyclists in neon clothes have been hit & killed…that leads me to think that wearing neon clothes isn’t that critical.

Having said that – if I was commuting to work at sunrise on a foggy day with the light in my eyes [hence in a driver's eyes as well] I’d be inclined to wear that neon vest I own and maybe use extra caution. But, that’s an unusual case.
