My trusty companion.
I have a bone to pick with Bike Friday. My Tikit is one year old now and I use it more than any other bike I own. If I gave my bikes $1 per ride the Tikit would be out shopping for some Phil Wood hubs and the rest of my bikes would have to pool their savings to get a carton of eggnog. I definitely have put more miles on some of my other bikes because I ride them 100kms at a go vs. the 1-3km average trip I take on my Tikit. It’s gotten to the point when I go rent a DVD without my Tikit the folks at the rental store ask me where it is. I was at MEC a few months ago and a guy approached me to talk about the Tikit [of course it was rolling along at my side]. He said “he knew” me from seeing me cruising around downtown on my little black and silver buddy.
That all sounds great so what’s my beef? Well I was hoping to write a long post for my 1 year review of the Tikit. I started to think about what to say and realized there really was nothing new to talk about. This bike just works. I’m embarrassed by how little maintenance I do to the bike. I was riding back from lunch yesterday and realized the chain was super squeaky – I hmmm…guess its been 3 months I better throw some oil on there. In a whole year I’ve had only one occasion where bringing the Tikit in with me was an issue and even that worked out when I pointed out if my Tikit wasn’t welcome I was going to take my business elsewhere. Every time I have a question or need something Bike Friday sorts me out ASAP.
I hope you are starting to see my problem. What the heck am I supposed to blog about??? In my previous reviews I’ve covered all this material. I need some conflict – some drama! Stuff just working great day in and day out does not make for exciting blogging…sigh…! The worst part is I don’t expect anything to change in 2009. Just another year of reliable trouble free folder action. Who knew it would be such a curse?

Great bike, the Tikit. As a height-challenged person, I especially like the standover (haha).
Tamia
My 1.5 yrs experience with my green tikit has been most enjoyable. It gets the most used foldie award among my 6 foldies thanks to its incredible fold/unfold feature, nimble handling, superb responsiveness and its ability to roll when folded is so appreciated.
The missus’ choice whenever she needs to ride 13km to work
Good for her, bad for me!
Vik, I am willing to swap your black Tikit for one of my black Dahon Classic III’s for the next year. This way we both have plenty of compare and contrast material for the coming year. Let me know how you want to handle shipping.
hahaha…sorry no matter what blogging problems I have to face my Tikits are too nice to part with. If you want to drop by for a cup of tea I’d be happy to let you test ride one or both of my Tikits…=-)
